Food Jobs description

Food technologists are primarily responsible for developing the manufacturing processes and recipes of food and drink products. They work on existing and newly discovered ingredients and technologies in order to invent new recipes and concepts and/or to modify foods for creating items such as fat-free products and ready-to-eat meals.

Food technologists also design processes and machinery required for making products with a consistent color, flavor, and texture. Since these activities need to be carried out within a strict and everchanging regulatory framework, food technologists need to be aware of FDA and other related regulations.

The job of a food technologist may also involve building relationships with suppliers and customers and ensuring that the products are profitable. Therefore, excellent communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills are a must for this position.

However, in order to move up the ladder or to receive a considerable increase in salary, it may be necessary to move between employers. In some cases, this may even require relocation.
