Description

We seek a hardworking and collaborative scientist to guide high impact application of insights from ground breaking computational genetics research across internal programs and external alliances in partnership with Neuroscience Thematic Research Center (TRC). A key focus will be the generation of novel therapeutic hypotheses that includes estimating efficacy and safety signals by conducting PheWAS, Mendelian Randomization analyses in biobanks and case-control cohorts through integrative analyses of human genetics and complementary high dimensional molecular profiles as well as deep clinical phenotypes. This work will enable the TRC to launch novel drug development programs based on causal human biology and prioritize early clinical programs in therapeutic areas of interest.

To realize this vision, the successful candidate will rely on deep expertise in statistical genetics and collaborate with a team of scientists across various related fields, computational biology and image analysis as required, co-developing novel approaches that transcend more than one area of Predictive Sciences and have the potential to be applied to multiple R&ED functions. As such, the successful candidate will need to effectively engage with external partners and provide scientific leadership to define and guide activities to meet program milestones. The candidate will also contribute to the broader initiative that seek to capitalize on IPS core competencies in strategic external consortia. The successful candidate will contribute to a globally-distributed team within the BMS Informatics & Predictive Sciences (IPS) department, engaged in collaborative bioinformatics, computational biology, and patient selection research by delivering insights from human genetics research across the pipeline.

Responsibilities

Work with a team of scientists who use human genetics and complementary omics data to identify novel targets and develop therapeutic hypotheses for indications of interest in Neuroscience.

Nominate new opportunities with high PoS from computational insights for development in an external research model environment.

Work with external partners in academia and industry to empower future efforts in Neuro TRC.

Participate in and oversight of scientific report writing. Presentation of methods, results and conclusions to a publishable standard.

Background experience & complementary knowledge

A Ph.D. in human genetics, statistical genetics, genomics, or related field and with 5 years for experience (postdoc/industry).

Deep scientific expertise in human genetics, omics-based molecular epidemiology, and statistical/ML methods for predictive modeling.

Design and analysis of genetic association studies (case/control and progression), integration with molecular QTLs and causal gene/variant mapping.

Long-standing experience in this area and/or a track record of high-impact peer-reviewed publications.

Strong scripting/programming skills.

Experience in drug development for early discovery efforts in Neuroscience and Immunology preferred.

Demonstrated ability to build strong working relationships that facilitate effective collaboration across cross-functional teams.

Track record of excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including ability to provide concise summaries of complex data to empower decision making.

Around the world, we are passionate about making an impact on the lives of patients with serious diseases. Empowered to apply our individual talents and diverse perspectives in an inclusive culture, our shared values of passion, innovation, urgency, accountability, inclusion and integrity bring out the highest potential of each of our colleagues.

Bristol Myers Squibb recognizes the importance of balance and flexibility in our work environment. We offer a wide variety of competitive benefits, services and programs that provide our employees with the resources to pursue their goals, both at work and in their personal lives.
