The Director, Regional Medical Liaisons (RML or MSL) Neurology is a member of a field-based team of scientists who function as an extension of the US Medical Affairs organization. RMLs are responsible for developing and enhancing professional relationships with medical thought leaders involved in various phases of product development. RMLs provide medical information through scientific exchange in a fair-balanced manner and provide clinical/scientific support for Bristol Myers Squibb and the Medical Affairs department at the direction of Medical Affairs management.In this position, you will manage a regional RML team in the eastern US. Working with the National Director Neurology RMLs, this position will provide strategic and operational support for executing the ongoing RML strategy and plan of action (POA). This position will involve oversight of key RML programs regionally and nationally as necessary. The strategic areas of focus include health-care decision maker education and research (investigator initiated trials; IITs and registration studies). This position involves travel of more than 50%. Candidates must live near a major airport, preferably in the Southeast US.Responsibilities will include:
Manage and develop all RMLs within the region including hiring, field training, evaluation, motivation and disciplinary activities in alignment with BMS corporate strategies and objectives. Provide strong leadership to motivate region to achieve excellent results and deliver per the POA.
Ensure that all interactions and activities in the region comply with company guidance, policies, and SOPs, OIG, ACCME, FDA, and PharMA guidelines/policies
Interpret and translate national strategies and POA into regional POA including the development and execution of a regional opinion leader development strategy and then guiding/assisting RMLs in developing and executing an opinion leader strategy in their individual territories. Opinion leader development includes appropriately engaging opinion leaders in research, as speakers, as consultants and other activities.
Ensure RMLs are able to provide appropriate clinical presentations and/or information in response to unsolicited questions (as appropriate) in academic, community, managed care and healthcare provider settings
Ensure RMLs are capable of training speakers on appropriate disease state or product decks, as appropriate
Guide and mentor RMLs in the intake of research ideas for IITs . Ensure that the guidance is aligned with strategy and up to date.
Guide and assist the RMLs in the coordination of opinion leader interactions within and across the region and with internal stake holders as necessary.
Coordinate within Medical Affairs to appropriately deploy RMLs in the region to respond to unsolicited questions while managing regional capacity.
Clearly communicate the national, regional, and territory plans, objectives, and POA; define, clarify and manage the regional team priorities; actively support the regional team and their efforts by being their advocate and spokesperson; promote collaboration within the team, across work groups and with customers.
Collaborate within Medical Affairs to appropriately respond to unsolicited requests for pipeline or off-label information.
Represent the RML function on US Medical Affairs teams as necessary.
Develop and maintain productive and appropriate relationships with individuals in other company regional positions from the commercial and Clinical Development organizations. Appropriately partner with the commercial field team to provide necessary and appropriate medical resources in the region and corresponding districts.
Required ​Skills/Knowledge/Education:
MD, DO, PharmD, MSN or PhD OR RN, BA/BS in a scientific discipline and 3 years of RML experience
Minimum of 7 years' related experience which includes at least 4 years of industry experience with a minimum of 2 years working in a field-based medical capacity
Excellent communication, presentation and time management skills required; must be adaptable and able to work well within a team and relate effectively with people at all levels of the organization.
Able to inspire a team to excel by fostering a climate of energy, excitement and personal accountability
Demonstrated leadership in ambiguous situations
Current working knowledge of US legal, regulatory, and compliance regulations and guidelines
Ability to partner with key internal stakeholders to understand BMS’ key objectives, and to drive plans that achieve or exceed these.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience working in Multiple Sclerosis experience highly desirable.
Live near a major airport in the Southeastern United States
