Often when students hit the college level they pretty well have some firm ideas in place as to what they want for a career. If it entails moving onto University then they really have their goals set in place. One very lucrative and intriguing area is Forensic Science careers. The hard part of choosing this career is what one area of it you specialize in. There are so many Forensic Science jobs that one can choose from.

For anyone that watched CSI on television you see just a few of the people that are involved working in Forensic Science. Although not always 100% factual, it does give you some idea as to what goes on behind the scenes, and a few of the various types of Forensic Science jobs that are available.

Without the services of forensic science there would be a lot of criminals walking the streets and a lot more crime taking place. Police officers would be at a loss without the people filling Forensic Science jobs.

If you choose to go into the Forensic Science careers be very well aware that there is much to learn and you will have to remain focused throughout your education in this field. Your basic training of the structure of the law and how the law reads and is applied, is pretty well the same for anybody entering into forensic sciences. Where it begins to change is once you decided what area you are going to specialize in. Just to give you an example of some of the areas take a look at these.

Fingerprint Technician
This is probably one of the more commonly known fields. Some people find it very intriguing and challenging while others find it boring. We would be lost without these individuals who have chosen this segment of forensic science. Often the only thing investigators will find at a crime scene is fingerprints and these are the one thing that will lead the officers to an arrest.

Crime Scene Investigators
We have to mention this one because so many people are aware of this. In addition with the numerous crime reality shows on television these days, you are really get a first hand look at what goes on during a crime investigation. It is the CSIs that gather all the evidence. Their job is critical to the investigation. If they miss something it could be the one clue that will break the case.

Police Officers
We often take this segment of Forensic Science for granted. Their presence is constant and we merely see them as peace keepers. Hence the name sometimes used ''peace officers'' or ''officers of the peace''. No matter what you wish to call them, just imagine without them there would be no need for forensic science, because there wouldn't be anyone to enforce the law. Students looking for Forensic Science jobs quite often put this at the top of their list for choices.

These few categories are just the start of the many different fields one can enter if deciding on a Forensic Science career. There is the drug analysts, the coroners, the DNA scientists and on and on.

Forensic science involves the study of science relating to biology and chemistry. Much is taught in the classroom atmosphere, then there is field training as well as lab experience to gain. Anyone involved in forensic science is in a continual learning process. In other words they never can stop learning because there is always new technology and approaches on the horizon.

Another thing to thing about when choosing your category for Forensic Science jobs is do you want to be mobile or do you want to remain stationery. In other words do you want to have to go out to the scenes like the CSI crew or remain in a lab atmosphere for example.

It should not be forgotten that other sectors require the services of forensic science as well such as other sections of the government. Then there are hospitals, universities and a whole variety of laboratories.

You must realized that if you are going to choose a Forensic Science Career that you must never obtain a criminal record. If you do you will probably still be able to take your early training in university for example, but you won't get into field training or land a job in any type of law enforcement.

If you choose a category of forensic science and discover once you start working in the field that its not for you or you really don't like it you can always go back and further your training in one of the other fields. It never hurts to have a few options, particularly if you enjoy the career on the whole. One thing is for sure, it is not a career that you will ever find mundane or archaic. As long as there are people in the world, unfortunately there will be crime as well and the need for forensic science will be there.
