Oceanography Jobs

An oceanography job requires the use of science and mathematics to explain the complex interactions between seawater, fresh water, polar ice caps, the atmosphere, and the biosphere. An oceanography job involves solving problems related to mineral exploitation, shipping, fisheries, coastal construction, pollution, weather prediction, climate change, and potential renewable energy, e.g., tidal currents.
The primary responsibilities of an oceanography job include collecting samples and data from the sea, sea floor, inland water features, atmosphere and/or continent, using specialized equipment and techniques, analyzing the samples for natural and contaminant composition using sophisticated instruments and techniques, and analyzing and interpreting a variety of data taken from samples, measurements and remote sensing aids. Attending scientific cruises and conferences associated with oceanography is also a part of an oceanographer's job.
A considerable number of oceanography professionals undertake marine studies in multidisciplinary teams and may specialize as marine geologists, marine chemists, marine physicists, and marine biologists.
