An Earth science professional has to perform calculations, analysis and interpretations of the data that is available on geophysical, oceanographic and geographic basis in order to determine the location, time, magnitude and intensity of an earthquake and to forecast the areas as well as the population which are most vulnerable to the natural calamity along with the estimated loss. He/she has to ensure the accuracy and reliability of the reports prepared. An earth science professional has to make certain that the entire equipment, IT infrastructure, software applications and operating systems which aid in the seismology reports are upgraded on regular basis and should recommend changes if needed.
This position requires a bachelor’s degree in seismology or geophysics with at least two years experience in this domain. An earth science professional should possess the knowledge of probabilistic analysis techniques, good communication skills, adaptability, flexibility and the willingness to live in areas which are prone to earthquakes.
