Psychometrics and Research\nServices

Research Scientist -\nResponsibilities
Scaling and Equating
Shows sufficient familiarity\nwith common scaling and equating designs to review and draft technical\ndocumentation, (including technical specifications)
Conducts and\nguides analyses for item calibration, linking, and equating
Designs,\ndocuments, (including technical specifications), and conducts analyses\nfor item calibration, linking, and equating
Grants, Research, and\nExternal Funding
Develops study design and research analysis\nspecifications for proposed research studies
Identifies study\nlimitations and study parameters to optimize analyses and design in\ngrants/applications for external funding and in research\npublications
Test Construction/Field Testing
Works closely with\nother research scientists, data analysts, subject-matter experts,\nand/or clients/customers in the construction of test forms and the\npreparation of items for various testing purposes
Contributes to technical designs of proposals
Writes\nassociated text under guidance from more senior research\nscientists
Knowledge of Educational Trends
Articulates and uses\nknowledge of national and state trends in education in assigned\noperational assessment programs or research projects
Communication\nSkills, Technical Presentations, and Client Contact
Demonstrates\ncommunication skills, (oral, written, and business), necessary to\nfunction effectively as a primary contact with internal project teams\nand external clients with guidance from more senior research\nscientists.
Communicates about general state and national educational\nissues
Presents technical information to different audiences, (e.g.,\nclient groups or technical advisory committees), with guidance from\nmore senior research scientists
Presents at national\nconferences
Serves as the primary contact for Pearson Psychometric\nand Research Services, (PRS), (e.g., represents group in meetings and\nin other communications) for internal and external clients for a\nsmall-to-medium operational testing program or research project, or\nfor a portion of a large and complex testing program or research\nproject
Project and Talent Management
Demonstrates project\nmanagement skills necessary to lead all PRS-related aspects of a\nsmall-to-medium operational assessment program or research project, or\na portion of a large and complex assessment program or research\nproject
Supports hiring process through applicant\ninterviewing
Provides career plan consultation and\nadvice
Aligns goals with published\ndepartment goals
Follows existing processes and documents processes\nwhen necessary
Education and Work\nExperience
Doctoral degree in educational measurement or a related\nfield from a nationally recognized institution of higher education AND\nat least one year of relevant job experience, preferably with a\ntesting program that has gone through a complete operational cycle OR\nat least one year of relevant job experience on a significant\ngrant-funded research project. Familiarity with psychometric\ntechniques or techniques associated with other relevant areas of\nexpertise. Experience with applied psychometric techniques in a job\nsetting including classical test theory, item response theory, test\nequating, scaling, linking, and standard setting OR experience with\napplied techniques associated with the scientist's specific area\nof expertise.
